Jeff’s time in the College Pro family spanned over 20 years, but don’t you dare call him old. From his professional to his family life, he’s definitely highly connected to this community. Here’s more about his journey.
Education: University of Illinois, BS, Finance & Marketing
Rookie Year: 1990
College Pro Beginnings
Jeff started as a painting franchisee after getting a flyer in his dorm room saying he could make a few bucks. College Pro had just opened up their Midwest office, and the new General Manager told him all about College Pro’s history and assured him it was a legit company – even though his interview took place in the GM’s vacant apartment as the offices weren’t set up yet! Somehow, Jeff got hooked, and wanted to take on the risk on running his own business.
He ran a franchise for a couple of years before his promotion to General Manager for four years in Illinois. He then continued on to become the Vice President in the Midwest for College Pro Painters, before ending his run as President in 2001: “In total, I spent 17 years with College Pro so it was – and still is – a huge part of my life.”
College Pro Skills
Jeff, like many, learned a ton of skills at College Pro: “It’s always been a great learning and development organization and I still use coaching, facilitation, problem solving, interviewing, and effective listening skills often in my current role. I wish everyone in the world had these skills as I think they are not only practical, but would make us all better communicators and more effective in every day life.”
Where's Jeff Now?
After College Pro, Jeff remained in the home restoration/improvement space. After a couple of years at CertaPro as a Regional Vice President, Jeff is now the CEO at Handyman Connection, a home improvement company. He bought the company from FirstService Brands in 2013, but they have been in operations in Canada and the US for over 20 years. Some of the most crucial members of the business operations are ex-College Pro franchisees that Jeff met during his years here. The vision he has for Handyman Connection is to be the lifetime connection for customers’ home improvement needs, and to provide resources for developing and implementing a strategy of capturing a customer for life.
